Georgica

This project replaced an early 1960's home originally designed by the late modernist architect Peter Blake with a completely new house, one which echoes the former dwellings' modern geometry and scale. A request of the new owners was to keep the house modest yet provide room for a growing family and space for up-to-date infrastructure and facilities. All the interior and exterior details are new and, though far different from the original house, are befitting of the present architecture. Expressing the fundamental simplicity of Blake's original configuration, I eliminated the roof-to-wall trim so that the basic geometric forms are reduced to solids and their relationships to each other, sharp and elemental. I relocated the new dwelling to capitalize the use of the property and the beautifully landscaped views. The interior is beautifully furnished. The scale and scope of this project rests in refreshing contrast to the grandiosities that dot the local landscape and easily stand as a testament to Mies's quote that "Less is more".
